Ahhh, Provence. Just saying the name of the place relaxes you. After Paris, the South of France is the most visited area in the country. Although most travelers beeline to places like Nice and Cannes on the French Riviera, a destination in its own right — my recommendation would be to be first to discover Provence.
A lot of travel is romanticization, and most of France makes it easy to do just that. Whereas Paris has its wide, Haussmannian boulevards, picture-perfect cafes, and the Eiffel Tower, Provence has rolling fields of lavender, fresh markets underneath canopies of trees, and patios flowing with endless rosé.
In this month’s travel edition, I share not five favorite activities or sights as I normally would, but rather, five favorite villages and towns. After multiple trips to the region, to me this is the most valuable travel intel — where to base yourself, how to plan your voyaging from there, and which small towns you need to know about.
