Pack your (own) bag, we’re talking the top spots I’ve personally traveled to and recommend as a solo traveler.
Solo travel is among the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Not only does it open up the days/weeks/months (!) to your own preferences and whims, it also allows an interaction with people and places that just isn’t there when you’re traveling with a companion.
I’ve had a few solo travel ‘fails’ along the way, too. For instance, I wouldn’t recommend traveling solo in Greece outside of Athens and the islands. Years ago, I planned to travel north on my own but found that transportation and lodging options weren’t at all solo traveler-friendly. I ended up flying to Italy instead (to a hostel on Lake Como, so it worked out.)
Similarly, there have been spots I love (here’s looking at you, New Zealand and Iceland) that feel incredibly safe as a solo female, but I still find best to explore on a road trip and with company.
The following places can also be great to see with friends, family, or a group. They’re simply the destinations I’ve felt most comfortable as a solo female traveler.
